Camp Location: Mareeba Rodeo Grounds
From Archer Point I decided to drive straight back to Mareeba to regroup and to attend to Bus repairs and maintenance before I set off west on the Savannah Way. Mareeba is a good reliable base from which to explore further north or for tableland hiking or as a starting point for the Savannah Way drive across Australia’s north. The campground is spacious and inexpensive and populated mainly by the caravan older set.
Just south of the Archer Point turnoff near Annan River is the Black Mountain National Park. A dozen or so people have disappeared hear mysteriously over the years. I personally get the feeling that there is something special (paranormal) about the place. I will be taking the advice of the traditional owners…”don’t go there”.
