This is one of the more well known stops in the MacDonnell Ranges. In the high season there would be coaches coming and going full of day tourist. As it is, it is not the high season so although still popular it is not crowded. The camp itself is nothing special, I suppose the gorge is ok as far as gorges go and the swimming hole didn’t look particularly inviting. The best thing about it is that its accessed by a sealed road.
Ormistan Gorge is another easy to get to trail head for the Larapinta trail providing access to Sections 9 and 10 of the trail.
Me and my camp neighbour ‘Sister’ Jason (he’s a nurse) did the Pound Walk here about a 10km loop through the gorge and back around to camp. Beautiful scenery.
